Before you buy a walker

The right walker is the one that fits the person and the room, not the one with the most wheels.

The trap

Skip a four-wheel rollator as an automatic first choice after a fall or surgery. Walkers with no, two, or four wheels serve different needs; choosing one without assessing balance and weight-bearing needs is a guess.

The better move

Ask a physical therapist to help choose and fit the walker. Check that the handles sit around hip height, elbows bend slightly, and all tips or wheels contact the ground before weight goes on it.

Three checks before buying

  1. Try it in the actual doorways and turns at home.
  2. Check tips and wheels regularly and replace worn parts.
  3. Choose a basket or small bag rather than carrying things in one hand.

What we have not done

This is a fit guide, not a recommendation for one model. No walker has been hands-on tested here.

Merchant links are plain, not affiliate links. We earn nothing from them today. If that changes, we will say so next to the links. This is general buying information, not professional medical or safety advice; individual needs and installation require qualified help.
